Nicolas Mérigot, CEO of Korian France Healthcare, and Bruno Perez, Regional Director of Icade Promotion for the Nouvelle-Aquitaine region, today broke ground on the upcoming post-acute care (PAC) facility in Saintes, in the presence of Eric Morival, Head of the Charente-Maritime departmental agency of the ARS, and Jean-Philippe Machon, Mayor of Saintes. This large-scale project has emerged from the development partnership formed between Icade and Korian in September 2017. Located in the heart of the “Sur Moreau” district, the future Korian health complex will open its doors in spring 2021.

Stemming from the project to relocate the Korian Mornay facility currently located in Saint-Pierre-de-l’Isle, the Korian health complex will become part of the senior care industry in the Saintes area. In addition to a 60-bed post-acute care inpatient facility, this new health complex will include a day hospital with 14 outpatient beds. Both facilities will provide comprehensive and specialised care for elderly, polypathological patients who are dependent or likely to become so.

  • These outpatient services ensuring continuity of care following a hospital stay will prepare and ease patients smoothly back home.
  • The new health complex will also feature doctors’ offices open to the general public, where patients can be seen by independent physicians.
  • Patients will be cared for by a multidisciplinary medical and paramedical team bolstered by additional care providers, including an occupational therapist, psychologist, dietician and adapted physical activity specialist. This project will create jobs in and around Saintes, and involve a team of 60 employees.
  • The healthcare facility will include innovative rehabilitation equipment (outdoor therapy programme) and will provide a setting conducive to quality care and patient comfort, featuring convivial spaces, wellness areas, recreation rooms and treatment rooms for a physiotherapist and occupational therapist.

“The Korian health complex in Saintes will operate in synergy with regional public healthcare services. This is the result of a close collaboration with the Regional Health Agency (ARS) over a number of years, aimed at maintaining a balanced local health ecosystem. Its multidisciplinary, comprehensive care will provide nuanced solutions tailored to the distinctive nature of the region and the needs of the inhabitants of the Saintes area. By moving closer to Saintes, we are looking to strengthen our partnerships with the city-hospital network and open the healthcare facility’s doors to all healthcare providers”, explained Nicolas Mérigot, CEO of Korian France Healthcare.

Through this project, Icade has taken another step in its partnership with Korian and confirmed Icade Promotion’s role as a responsible real estate player, committed to the local economy, particularly given that close to 80% of the construction was carried out by companies from Charente. The project showcases the depth of Icade’s expertise in the residential, office, healthcare and medical-social segments.

A new stage in the partnership between Icade and Korian

This project is in line with the framework partnership agreement involving Korian (operator and investor), Icade Promotion (developer) and Icade Santé (investor) for the construction of 15 facilities (nursing homes and PAC facilities) to be completed from 2021 onwards in France. It includes the development and construction of facilities (under property development or off-plan contracts) in addition to the investment, with Korian retaining the option to act as investor, on a case-by-case basis.
